Cave de Buxy
Profile

30History
Cave de Buxy is a cooperative based in Montagny-lès-Buxy, at the southern tip of the Côte Chalonnaise. Founded in 1931, it became one of the Côte Chalonnaise's most productive négociant-cooperative operations — and in Montagny in particular, where every Premier Cru is Chardonnay-only, the cooperative's scale gives it an unusually thorough command of the appellation.
Winemaking Approach
Thirty Premier Cru parcels, all within Montagny-lès-Buxy, make this the dominant force in that village's production. Montagny's classification is unusual in Burgundy: all white wines meeting a minimum natural alcohol threshold qualify as Premier Cru, which means the appellation's hierarchy runs almost entirely within the Premier Cru band rather than splitting village-versus-Premier Cru as elsewhere. Cave de Buxy exploits that range fully, vinifying numerous individual climat bottlings — Chazelle, Cornevent, La Grande Pièce, Le Clouzot, and more — alongside its house blends. The cooperative model prioritises consistency and volume, with vinification handled centrally.
