About Burgundy Travel

In Burgundy, dozens of vineyards overlap within a single village, and each vineyard is shared among multiple producers. When you want to know 'Who owns this vineyard?' or 'What vineyards does this producer work with?', you had to search across multiple books and websites. Burgundy Travel was built to solve this by letting you look up vineyards and producers from one screen.

Currently covers 629 vineyards, 804 producers, and 3,957 ownership records. The map overlays boundaries for 573 vineyards. All classifications from Grand Cru to Regional are searchable.

Editorial Policy

Burgundy Travel is an independently compiled encyclopedia that cross-references existing references, guidebooks, and official data. We stack information in the following order.

1. Primary data first — Vineyard boundaries, positions, and AOC hierarchy defer to official INAO GeoJSON as the source of truth. Where references disagree with primary data, primary data wins.
2. Multi-source cross-referencing — Ownership, history, and stylistic descriptions are cross-checked against 20+ references in English, French, and Japanese alongside data from public agencies. Only claims corroborated by multiple sources are published.
3. Continuous updates — Producer ownership changes and newly designated AOCs are reflected on an ongoing basis, drawing from reader reports and revised primary sources.
4. AI and human roles — Descriptive prose may be drafted with machine assistance, but factual fields such as classification, ownership, and area are verified against primary sources by a human before publication.

Data Sources

Vineyard positions, boundaries, and AOC hierarchy are sourced from GeoJSON published by INAO (France's National Institute of Origin and Quality). Producer-vineyard relationships, ownership areas, and historical context were compiled by cross-referencing the following references.
