L'Épaule is a premier cru *climat* in Montagny-lès-Buxy, at the southern end of the Côte Chalonnaise. Montagny is a white-wine-only commune — Chardonnay occupies every parcel, and premier cru status here attaches to a large share of the appellation's named sites.
Chardonnay, white only. Three producers hold parcels within L'Épaule, farmed at a minimum density of 9,000 vines per hectare with a yield ceiling around 45–48 hl/ha.
