History

Les Vergers is a premier cru *climat* in Chassagne-Montrachet, on the Côte de Beaune. Chassagne sits at the southern end of the Côte d'Or's golden strip, where the ridge begins to soften and the soils shift toward limestone-rich marl — conditions that favor Chardonnay as decisively as the northern part of Puligny does. Les Vergers lies on the upper slope above the village, in a zone where the name itself — "the orchards" — hints at land once given over to fruit trees before vines took permanent hold. The *climat* has accumulated a cast of 18 proprietors through the typical Burgundian inheritance division, with no single domaine controlling more than roughly a hectare.

Style & Terroir

Les Vergers produces white wine from Chardonnay. Registered holdings total approximately 6.17 ha. The upper-slope position and thin limestone soils push the wine toward tension and mineral definition — a leaner profile than the broader, more fruit-forward whites from Chassagne's lower parcels. Expect citrus, white peach, and a chalky finish with enough structure to reward five to ten years in bottle.

Les Vergers has 18 identified owners, with five prominent holdings.
