Domaine de la Vougeraie
Profile

8History
Domaine de la Vougeraie was established in 1999 by Jean-Charles Boisset. The founding concept was consolidation: the Boisset family had been accumulating Burgundy parcels since 1964, and Vougeraie drew together approximately 35 ha of what the family judged their finest holdings into a single dedicated estate — separate from the broader Boisset négociant empire.
The name derives from Vougeot and its landmark Clos de Vougeot. The domaine is headquartered in the village itself and was conceived as the quality flagship within Boisset Family Estates — the largest wine producer in Burgundy, encompassing négociant houses such as Jaffelin, Bouchard Aîné & Fils, Ropiteau Frères, J. Moreau & Fils (Chablis), Louis Bouillot (Crémant), and Antonin Rodet (Mercurey).
Winemaking Approach
Vougeraie farms biodynamically across all 37 ha — an uncommon commitment at this scale in the Côte d'Or. Key practices:
- Biodynamic certification across the full estate. - Horse-drawn cultivation: 15 of the 37 ha are worked with horses rather than tractors. - Wild-yeast fermentation: open wooden fermenters with native yeasts only. - New oak: adjusted 30–100% by cuvée.
Pascal Marchand served as founding winemaker before leaving to establish Marchand-Tawse. Pierre Vincent succeeded him in 2006 and has continued refining the estate's approach.
