History

Domaine Jacques Prieur was founded by the Prieur family in the late nineteenth century and by the early twentieth century already held an unusually deep collection of Grand Cru and Premier Cru parcels. In the 1980s the estate ran into difficulties, prompting a restructuring in which the Labruyère family — négociants and owners of Château de Beaujeu in Moulin-à-Vent — took majority control. Today the Labruyère family holds approximately 70%, with the Prieur family retaining the remaining 30%.

The Labruyère-era overhaul produced a marked quality revival. Headquarters remain in the historic Prieur building in the centre of Meursault, and the vineyards span both the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits.

Winemaking Approach

Jacques Prieur is unusual in managing a large, geographically diverse portfolio — from Chambertin in the Côte de Nuits to Le Montrachet at the southern end of the Côte de Beaune — under a single winemaking team.

- Consistent approach across the range: every wine, from village to Grand Cru, is vinified in the same cellar by the same team. - Oak regime: historically high proportions of new oak; in recent years this has been calibrated to the wine and vintage, pulling back where freshness matters more. - Modernised vineyards and cellar: the Labruyère restructuring brought full renovation to both, significantly raising consistency.
