3History
Domaine Thenard is an estate with holdings that span both the Côte de Nuits and Givry — an unusual combination that reflects the domaine's layered history. The estate's centerpiece is 1.83 ha of Le Montrachet, making it one of the larger single-domaine owners of that grand cru. Givry premier crus account for the bulk of the volume, with Les Bois Chevaux (7.66 ha) and Clos du Cellier aux Moines (5.95 ha) anchoring a substantial Côte Chalonnaise portfolio alongside the prestige grand cru holdings further north. The estate is now managed by Jacques Bordeaux-Montrieux, whose family acquired control in the twentieth century.
Winemaking Approach
Seven parcels across five communes — Le Montrachet and Grands Échézeaux at the top of the hierarchy, Corton Clos du Roi on the hill above Aloxe-Corton, and four Givry premier crus in the south. The contrast between grand cru Côte de Nuits parcels and the larger Givry holdings is one of the estate's defining characteristics. Detailed public information on cellar methods is limited.
