History

The name derives from *pierre* — stone — and the quarries that once cut into this part of the Meursault hillside. That geological past turned out to be telling: the soil is saturated with limestone, and the wines carry its signature in every glass. Les Perrières sits on the southern fringe of Meursault, close enough to the Puligny-Montrachet boundary that the grand cru comparison is unavoidable. Meursault itself has no Grand Cru, and the village has lived with that quirk for generations. Whether Les Perrières deserves promotion is the most persistently debated classification question on the Côte de Beaune — a near-consensus in the trade says yes, though the wheels of Burgundy bureaucracy turn slowly.

Style & Terroir

The climat is subdivided into Perrières-Dessus (upper) and Perrières-Dessous (lower), with the upper parcels generally drawing the higher assessments. Chardonnay only. The wines combine Meursault's characteristic weight with a mineral sharpness — flinty, saline, tightly coiled in youth — that sets Perrières apart from the richer, more buttery expressions elsewhere in the village. Young bottles reward patience; a decade of cellaring begins to show the wine's range, and the best examples carry genuine complexity at twenty-five years or beyond. The finest vintages can develop for thirty years or more.

Notable Producers

Domaine des Comtes Lafon — Dominique Lafon's parcel anchors the modern reference point for the vineyard. The cuvée ranks among Lafon's most sought-after whites.

Domaine Coche-Dury — Jean-François Coche's Perrières trades at prices that exceed many grand cru whites; allocation is extremely limited.

Domaine Roulot — Jean-Marc Roulot's reductive, precise style produces another summit-level interpretation of the *climat*.

Domaine François Mikulski — a respected Meursault family estate with long-standing ties to Perrières.

Maison Joseph Drouhin — holds parcels in the vineyard.

Maison Louis Latour, Maison Louis Jadot, and Maison Bouchard Père & Fils also work the vineyard.

Together, the Coche-Dury, Lafon, and Roulot bottlings form one of the most pursued trios in the global white wine market.
