Notes ·

History

La Pièce sous le Bois is a premier cru vineyard in the Meursault (Blagny) section of the Côte de Beaune — a hamlet shared between Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet that straddles a higher, cooler ridge above both villages. White wine made from vines on the Meursault side carries the Meursault premier cru label; red wine from the same area goes out as Blagny premier cru. The name itself is evocative: *la pièce sous le bois*, the parcel below the wood, points to the treeline that edges the upper slope.

Style & Terroir

Chardonnay, white only. Registered holdings total approximately 2.22 ha across seven producers. La Pièce sous le Bois sits at the higher, cooler end of Meursault's premier cru range — the elevation adds tension to the wine that the flatter, richer sites in the village centre don't always deliver. Premier cru rules apply: 9,000 vines per hectare minimum, yields kept to roughly 45–48 hl/ha.

Notable Producers

- Domaine Thierry & Pascale Matrot (1.43 ha) - Domaine Comtesse de Cherisey (0.33 ha) - Domaine Lamy-Pillot (0.24 ha) - Benjamin Leroux (0.22 ha) - Domaine Chapelle de Blagny
