History

Domaine Coche-Dury began in the 1920s when Léon Coche established a small grape-growing operation in Meursault. His son Georges took the reins in 1964, and in 1973 Jean-François Coche assumed control — marrying into the Dury family along the way and adding that name to the domaine's own. The modern estate took shape under Jean-François, who transformed a modest farm holding into an address that commands global attention. Raphaël Coche joined full-time in 1999 and assumed winemaking duties in 2010, becoming the third generation in the modern lineage.

Robert Parker called it among the five or six finest white-wine estates in Burgundy. That reputation has translated into extraordinary secondary-market prices: Coche-Dury's Corton-Charlemagne trades at a level that places it among the most expensive white wines on earth.

Winemaking Approach

The estate works roughly 9 hectares and produces around 3,500 cases (approximately 42,000 bottles) each year. Roughly 70% is domaine-bottled; the remaining 30% goes to négociants including Louis Latour and Louis Jadot.

Jean-François Coche built his style on restraint — minimal *bâtonnage*, a bias toward fruit and mineral precision over wood, and a deliberate reductive winemaking approach that produces wines with flint and matchstick notes. That signature became the template for what the broader wine world now calls "reductive Meursault." Raphaël continues the same philosophy. The grapes are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Aligoté; the reds come from small parcels in Auxey-Duresses, Monthelie and Volnay.
