Profile

History

Domaine Blain-Gagnard is a Chassagne-Montrachet estate with a portfolio built around the white Grands Crus at the top of the village's hierarchy. The Gagnard family name has long been associated with Chassagne; Blain-Gagnard emerged as a distinct domaine when Jean-Marc Blain married Claudine Gagnard. The holdings reflect that inheritance: parcels in Bâtard-Montrachet, Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a sliver of Le Montrachet itself anchor the lineup, supported by eight Premier Crus across four communes.

Winemaking Approach

Eleven parcels span Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault, and Volnay. The three Grands Crus are all white — Bâtard-Montrachet (0.61 ha), Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet (0.37 ha), and Montrachet (0.07 ha) — while the Premier Cru tier mixes white Chassagne parcels with red Volnay holdings in Pitures (0.37 ha) and Champans (0.36 ha). That breadth is characteristic of estates rooted in the old Côte de Beaune farming tradition, where a single family might cultivate both sides of the red/white divide within a compact zone.
