Clos du Roi is a premier cru vineyard in Beaune, the historic wine capital of the Côte de Beaune. The name — "the king's enclosure" — echoes a medieval royal connection common to several Burgundian clos that once fell under royal or ducal ownership. Beaune surrounds itself with an unusually wide arc of premier cru parcels, and Clos du Roi sits among the more substantial of them, with registered holdings totalling approximately 17.01 ha across 18 producers.
Pinot Noir, red only. The site's scale and multiple-owner structure mean bottles labeled Clos du Roi can differ markedly in weight and style depending on the producer — from the more commercial négociant bottlings to tighter domaine wines. Expect the broad Beaune profile: medium-bodied reds with red-fruit character and supple tannin, built for drinking within a decade rather than extended cellaring.
