Profile

History

Marchand-Tawse is a négociant-domaine hybrid born from a partnership between Pascal Marchand, a Canadian-trained winemaker with deep Burgundy experience, and Moray Tawse, an Ontario wine producer. The collaboration took shape in the mid-2000s and is based in Aloxe-Corton, though its sourcing network spans the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. The enterprise reflects a model that has become more common in modern Burgundy: an outsider with capital and a local with cellar knowledge pooling resources to access classified parcels that neither could secure alone.

Winemaking Approach

Eight parcels across five communes include four Grand Crus — Mazis-Chambertin and Charmes-Chambertin in Gevrey, the tiny Musigny plot in Chambolle, and Corton-Charlemagne at the estate's Aloxe-Corton base — alongside four Premier Crus that extend south through Beaune and Volnay. The range is deliberately pan-Burgundian rather than village-focused, which suits the négociant dimension of the business. Marchand's winemaking tends toward precision and extraction control — less extraction and more lift than the traditional Gevrey house style.
