Grand Cru
5History
Domaine Jean-Paul & Benoit Droin is a well-established Chablis estate with five Grand Cru and nine Premier Cru parcels across eight communes. Chablis Grand Cru sits on a southwest-facing hillside above the Serein river, where Kimmeridgean limestone soils produce Chardonnay of extraordinary mineral tension. Holding five of the seven Grand Cru lieux-dits — Les Clos, Valmur, Vaudésir, Grenouilles, and Blanchot — places this domaine among the most broadly documented estates in the appellation.
Winemaking Approach
Fourteen parcels spanning eight communes give the domaine an unusually wide expression of Chablis terroir, from the power and density of Les Clos to the floral delicacy of Grenouilles. Premier Crus Montée de Tonnerre, Fourchaume, and Mont de Milieu are among the most prized in the appellation. Detailed winemaking protocols are not extensively documented in public sources, but the scale and diversity of holdings implies parcel-by-parcel vinification.
