History

Blanchot (Les Blanchots) is the southeasternmost of the seven Chablis grand cru *climats*. The Chablis AOC and its seven grand cru sites were formally recognised in 1938, and like its neighbours, Blanchot traces a viticultural heritage back to the medieval Cistercian abbey of Pontigny.

Style & Terroir

Blanchot occupies the far southeastern end of the single grand cru hillside north of the village — the most eastward-facing of the seven *climats*. The same Kimmeridgean subsoil runs beneath it: limestone, clay, and fossilised oyster shells.

Chardonnay is the only variety permitted. Grand cru regulations allow yields up to 54 hl/ha, with a minimum maturity of 11.0% potential alcohol.

Blanchot is the most delicate and floral of the seven — where Les Clos and Vaudésir build on structural density, Blanchot builds on transparency and lift. Producers here tend to keep oak restrained, letting aromatic purity lead over weight.

Notable Producers

Domaine Laroche is the defining name at Blanchot. Based in the historic *Obédiencerie* — a former monastery building in Chablis — the estate treats Blanchot as a flagship cuvée.

Long-Depaquit (part of Maison Albert Bichot) is a long-standing owner; the estate produces both a straight Blanchot grand cru and the famous "La Moutonne" *lieu-dit* wine that straddles parts of neighbouring *climats*.

La Chablisienne, the dominant Chablis cooperative, holds a parcel here.

Domaine Jean-Marc Brocard is among the major Chablis houses farming Blanchot.

Maison Joseph Drouhin also holds a parcel as part of its substantial Chablis portfolio.
