ジュヴレ・シャンベルタン村の特級畑リュショット・シャンベルタンは、わずか3.30ヘクタールの小規模な面積から成る。「小さな岩」を意味する名が示す通り、表土が乏しく石の多い不毛な土壌が特徴である。畑は上下二つの区画に分かれ、上部はウーライト質の白いマール岩、下部はバトニアン期の崩落岩層の上に位置する。この岩がちな性質により、ワインは重さよりも繊細なニュアンスを湛え、淡い色調を持つ傾向にある。日照条件に恵まれ、1.06ヘクタールを擁するドメーヌ・アルマン・ルソーが、上部のクロ・デ・リュショットを単独所有する。他にはミュニュレ・ジブールやクリストフ・ルーミエ、フレデリック・エスモナンらが主要な所有者に名を連ねる。
Ruchottes-Chambertin is a grand cru in Gevrey-Chambertin, with its AOC established in 1937. It sits high on the Côte d'Or slope — east of Mazis-Chambertin and framed by Gevrey-Chambertin premier crus to the north and south — occupying the highest and most upslope position among the nine Gevrey grands crus.
The vineyard covers just 3 ha of production area (2008), making it one of the smallest in the Gevrey grand cru group. Annual production runs to around 13,000 bottles — scarcity that has made the wine a collector fixture.
Pinot Noir dominates. Minimum planting density is 9,000 vines per hectare, minimum maturity 11.5% potential alcohol, and the yield ceiling stands at 37 hl/ha.
Thin topsoils and limestone-rich bedrock high on the slope push the wine toward aromatic clarity and a precisely woven tannic frame rather than the raw power of Chambertin or Clos de Bèze. Critical appreciation for the site has risen sharply over recent decades, tracking a broader revaluation of mineral-driven, high-elevation Gevrey terroir.
Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg, the Vosne-Romanée house, is one of the principal owners. Its translucent, precise interpretation stands as a reference point for the cru.
Domaine Armand Rousseau produces a Ruchottes-Chambertin that foregrounds finesse over power — consistent with Rousseau's approach across its Gevrey portfolio.
Domaine Frédéric Esmonin is a Gevrey-Chambertin family estate with one of the longer-standing domaine versions of the wine.
Domaine Claude Dugat, a highly regarded Gevrey producer, also holds a parcel here.
With so few owners and tiny quantities per producer, Ruchottes-Chambertin occupies a small and sought-after niche in the Gevrey-Chambertin collector market.
