Les Vignes Derrière is a premier cru *climat* in Montagny-lès-Buxy, at the southern end of the Côte Chalonnaise. Montagny is the only appellation in the Côte Chalonnaise that produces exclusively white wine — all Chardonnay, no Pinot Noir — and its premier cru status applies broadly across the hillside, with qualifying yields and minimum alcohol governing which parcels earn the designation. "Derrière" simply means "behind," a positional reference in an old land-parcel vocabulary that named fields by their relation to the village, a road, or a prominent landmark.
Les Vignes Derrière produces white wine from Chardonnay. Registered holdings total 0.97 ha, held by a single producer. Montagny whites at this level show ripe apple and light floral tones, with a freshness and moderate weight that suits the appellation's accessible, early-drinking style.
