Clos du Château de Montaigu takes its name from the château that once stood above the hamlet of St-Martin-sous-Montaigu, a satellite village within the Mercurey appellation of the Côte Chalonnaise. The *clos* enclosure — now a premier cru *climat* — was historically tied to the estate of the château, and the walled vineyard survives today as a monopole in single hands. Mercurey is the Côte Chalonnaise's largest red-wine appellation, producing Pinot Noir with a slightly firmer structure than Givry.
