Domaine Robert Groffier is a Chambolle-Musigny estate whose holdings extend well beyond the village — reaching north to Gevrey-Chambertin and spanning (3) communes in total. The domaine's Grand Cru parcels in Chambertin-Clos de Bèze and Bonnes-Mares place it among estates that must balance two distinct poles of the Côte de Nuits: Gevrey's power and Chambolle's delicacy. Robert Groffier built the domaine's reputation through careful parcel management; subsequent generations have continued that work.
Winemaking Approach
Five parcels — (2) Grand Cru and (3) Premier Cru — span Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny. The multi-terroir profile demands separate vinification for each climat, allowing house style to emerge from assembly rather than standardisation. Les Amoureuses, the domaine's best-known Premier Cru, sits just below the Musigny boundary and produces the most fragrant and texturally refined wine in the range. The Grand Cru Bonnes-Mares straddles the Chambolle-Morey border and adds darker, more tannic weight.
