Monthélie Premier Cru belongs to a small, often overlooked commune wedged between Meursault and Volnay on the Côte de Beaune. Despite the famous neighbors, Monthélie's premier cru *climats* have their own identity — mostly red wines from north- and east-facing slopes that tend toward firm structure and mineral precision rather than early opulence. The village received its AOC in 1970; the premier cru sites were formally delineated alongside the rest of Burgundy's classification.
