モンテリー村の北から東にかけて広がる丘陵地に位置し、ヴォルネーの銘醸畑クロ・デ・シェーヌから続く斜面の延長線上に存在する。この一帯は、村の主要なプルミエ・クリュが集中するサドル（鞍）型の地形で構成されている。総面積は7.12ヘクタールに及び、主要な所有者には3.09ヘクタールを擁するドメーヌ・エリック・ド・シュルマンのほか、レミ・ジョバール、シャトー・ド・モンテリー、ローラン・ブーセらが名を連ねる。ワインの性格は、ヴォルネーに通じる華やかさと、隣接するオークセイ・デュレス特有の硬質な構造を併せ持つ。若いうちは明るい赤系果実の風味が際立ち、熟成を経て多層的な複雑さを備える。近年は白ブドウの栽培比率も高まっている。
Sur la Velle is a premier cru in Monthélie, a compact Côte de Beaune village sandwiched between Volnay and Meursault. Monthélie earns less attention than either neighbor, but its red premiers crus draw on Pinot Noir grown at similar elevations and exposures — Sur la Velle being one of the larger named parcels in the appellation.
