History

Les Vergelesses is a premier cru *climat* in Savigny-lès-Beaune, a commune on the northwestern edge of Beaune in the Côte de Beaune. Savigny occupies a valley carved by the Rhoin stream — a break in the ridge that splits the appellation into two distinct slope orientations — and Les Vergelesses sits on the southern flank closest to the Pernand-Vergelesses border, where the terrain tilts toward east and southeast. The name "Vergelesses" appears in medieval land records tied to the abbeys and noble houses that managed much of the Côte before the Revolution; the parcels passed through successive private hands after the Napoleonic redistribution and remain fragmented today across 21 owners.

Style & Terroir

Les Vergelesses produces red wine from Pinot Noir. Total registered holdings reach approximately 15.31 ha — one of the larger premier cru blocks in Savigny. The southeast-facing slope delivers reliable ripening, and the soils, a mix of limestone rubble and brown calcareous earth over bedrock, give wines a firm but accessible structure. Fruit tends toward red cherry and dried flowers, with a mineral grip that distinguishes this corner of Savigny from the softer, more violet-inflected parcels on the opposite valley wall.

Notable Producers

Les Vergelesses counts 21 identified owners, with five holding the largest shares.
