Les Mitans is a premier cru *climat* in Volnay, a Côte de Beaune village producing some of the most perfumed and fine-boned Pinot Noir in Burgundy. The name—derived from a word meaning "middle" or "midway"—reflects the parcel's position along the slope, and older cartographic records place it firmly among Volnay's best-regarded lieux-dits. Volnay's premier crus are tightly clustered on a relatively narrow band of hillside, and Les Mitans sits toward the heart of that band.
Les Mitans produces red wine from Pinot Noir. Registered holdings total approximately 2.32 ha across 7 producers. Volnay's soils are lighter and more calcareous than those of neighboring Pommard, and that character carries through here — wines tend toward floral aromatics, silky texture, and a mid-weight frame rather than bulk.
