Pommard Premier Cru comes from the most prominent all-red commune of the Côte de Beaune. Pommard has no grand crus — another classification gap that generates ongoing discussion — but its best premier cru *climats*, particularly Les Épenots and Les Rugiens, produce wines of unmistakable character: dark-fruited, firm-tannic, structured Pinot Noirs that age well over a decade. The east-facing slopes here sit on a mix of limestone, marl, and iron-rich soils that push the wine toward density rather than elegance.
Style & Terroir
Pinot Noir, red only. Premier cru regulations apply: minimum 9,000 vines per hectare, potential alcohol around 11.0–11.5%, yields capped in the 45–48 hl/ha range.
