Cros Parantoux is a premier cru in Vosne-Romanée, the commune that contains Romanée-Conti and five other grands crus alongside a remarkable collection of named premier cru *climat*s. The site is small — approximately 2.44 ha of registered holdings — but its reputation far exceeds its size.
The story of Cros Parantoux is inseparable from Henri Jayer. Before Jayer acquired his parcel and planted it in the early 1950s, the land had long been used for growing Jerusalem artichokes, considered too difficult for vines. Jayer's meticulous winemaking — low yields, careful cellar work, new oak — transformed the *climat* into one of the most sought-after premier crus in Burgundy. His wines from Cros Parantoux now command prices that rival or exceed many grands crus.
