History

Clos Marcilly is a premier cru in Mercurey, the largest commune of the Côte Chalonnaise. Mercurey's output is predominantly red, and its premier cru list — one of the longest in the Chalonnaise — runs to dozens of named parcels. Clos Marcilly registers approximately 6.30 ha, split evenly between two holdings that appear to be variant spellings of the same owner, Les Héritiers Saint-Genys (3.15 ha each).

Style & Terroir

Pinot Noir, red only. Mercurey reds sit at the more structured end of the Côte Chalonnaise spectrum — darker fruit, firmer tannin, and a slight earthiness that can recall the Côte de Nuits without the complexity. Good value for medium-term drinking.
