History
Château du Clos de Tart — now under the ownership of Artémis Domaines, the Pinault family's wine holding company — is built around one of Burgundy's most historically significant Grand Cru monopoles. The Clos de Tart (7.53 ha) in Morey-Saint-Denis has existed as a single enclosed vineyard under unbroken single ownership since the Cistercian nuns of the Tart abbey acquired it in 1141. The Mommessin family held the estate from 1932 until Artémis Domaines acquired it in 2017, triggering a comprehensive renovation of both the winemaking facilities and the viticultural approach.
Morey-Saint-Denis lies between Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny, and its wines balance the structure of the former with the finesse of the latter — a character that the Clos de Tart expresses with particular clarity.
Winemaking Approach
Since the 2017 acquisition, Artémis Domaines has invested heavily in the estate — new cellars, parcel-by-parcel vinification, and a shift toward organic viticulture. The monopole format means that every bottle of Clos de Tart Grand Cru comes exclusively from this single estate, giving the wine an unusual degree of identity and traceability.
