History
Domaine du Clos de Tart is based in Morey-Saint-Denis, the compact village tucked between Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny. The estate's entire production rests on a single Grand Cru — Clos de Tart — a walled monopole of 7.53 ha whose history traces back to Cistercian monks in the twelfth century. The Mommessin négociant house owned it for most of the twentieth century; in 2018, François Pinault acquired the domaine, bringing the same ownership group that holds Château Latour and Domaine d'Eugénie.
Winemaking Approach
A monopole of this scale is unusual in Burgundy, where Grand Cru ownership is typically fragmented across dozens of families. Clos de Tart's single-block wall enclosing 7.53 ha means the estate controls every decision from vine to bottle — no blending across owners, no stylistic compromise.
